Get GRIT: A Journal for Kids

5-8 years

9-12 years

A review from parenting expert Maggie Dent:

"Caring grown-ups can influence the inner voice of children significantly - either negatively or positively. The inner voice of today's digital children has been shaped by a chaotic uncertain world, weakening emotional and social competencies, disconnectedness and increased bullying especially online. To help them develop a more positive inner voice and life skills they need help and Get Grit: A Journal by Michele Lund is a fabulous way to do that. This journal is best done with a trusted adult ally and over time can create the healthy insights and mindsets to help our growing kids to more optimistic and positive. Many of the chapters could be used as stand alone activities in homes and classrooms as well. I used a similar approach in my classrooms many years again and know it helped many students. Well done Michele this easy to use resource in its beautiful format is fabulous!"

Get GRIT: A Journal

Get GRIT is the world’s first social-emotional skills journal that empowers kids (and their parents) with the knowledge and skills to maintain strong mental health and emotional well-being. One in 2 Australians will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lifetime.  Surprisingly, half of all mental health conditions in adulthood begin before the age of 14 (beyondblue.com)

Get GRIT is a self-guided journal that teaches the knowledge and skills to maintain a strong, healthy mind and a positive, emotional well-being. For many parents, raising happy, resilient kids is the holy grail of parenting success. Happiness is a skill. It’s not about circumstances, as some of the happiest people on Earth live in the poorest communities.

It’s about MINDSET.

Happiness is down to a set of skills we can learn and like any other skill, these skills need to be explicitly taught and practised.

Empower your kids with the right information. Get GRIT teaches kids the knowledge and skills to maintain a strong, healthy mind and a positive well-being.

How does the Get GRIT Journal work?

As a parent, the Get GRIT Journal will provide you with the tools to better connect with your child and teach life-long skills which will serve them in every area of their life.   Children are encouraged to meet each week with a journal mate (parent, grandparent or friend), who they can share their journaling experience with. The role of the journal mate is to listen, to share experiences, and to guide the child through each lesson. The child’s age and ability will determine the level of scaffolding required from their journal mate. The journal is not about a child’s reading and writing skills but about nurturing strong mental health and well-being.  Get GRIT is about learning the most important skills in life.

The journal is recommended for children aged 5-12 years. The child’s age and ability will determine the level of scaffolding required from their journal mate.
